Youth Fashion Design Awards
Thursday 22 December 2005
The Inaugural Youth Fashion Design Awards, developed by the Port Macquarie Hastings Youth Advisory Council are now seeking entries. The awards aim to create an opportunity for young fashion designers to showcase their designs to the general public while competing for exciting prizes such as a sewing machine and gift vouchers.
Entry is open to all Hastings residents aged 12 to 25 and designs will be judged by a panel of judges from across the fashion industry, who will assess each item based upon artistic ability, originality and overall design.
Port Macquarie Hastings Youth Advisory Council Liaison Officer, Rebecca Mann says the awards are a tribute to the creativity and style of Hastings youth.
"At present we have so much talent in the area in terms of fashion design, I think this would be a great way to let the wider community see some of this talent and to reward young people at the same time" said Rebecca.
Young people wishing to enter are required to register their designs by completing a copy of the entry form and submitting this form by January 27th 2006. A copy of the article or a sketch of the design should be attached to the entry. All designs are required to be the entrants own creation with no restriction on the type of wear and can include items such as swimwear, evening or day wear.
The Awards will be presented as part of the Youth Week program, on Sunday night 9 April 2006 at the Port Macquarie Library. The evening will feature a full catwalk display of all finalists creations and is open to the general public and young people in particular are encouraged to attend.
Entrants can pick up an application form at Star FM, Spotlight Port Macquarie and from Port Macquarie-Hastings Council or click here. The Awards are supported by the Port Macquarie-Hastings Council, Port Macquarie-Hastings Youth Advisory Council, Star FM, The Foundation for Young Australians and Spotlight Port Macquarie.
