Youth Prepare for Band Battle

Wednesday 1 March 2006

Local youth bands in the Hastings are finalising their preparations for this years Battle of the Bands Competition in the hope of winning a professional recording session.  Entries close on March 17 for the competition, which will be held on Saturday April 1 as part of the Youth Week Celebrations.

The Battle of the Bands is a competition for bands whose members are aged 13 to 24 years. First prize is 20 hours recording time at Line Level Studios plus a $1000 gift voucher from Guitar Factory. Second prize includes 15 hours recording time at Ghost Road Recording Studio and a $500 gift voucher. A number of Individual prizes will also be awarded on the night including Best Guitarist, Best Individual Performance and Best Original Song.

The aim of the event is to develop the skills of young musicians by providing them with an opportunity to perform live in front of a supportive audience with constructive feedback from a panel of judges who have experience in the music industry and performance.

By being part of the 'Battle' young performers can express their views through music. Bands perform a wide range of musical styles including punk, rock, folk and metal.

Entries close Friday 17 March and entry forms are available from Guitar Factory, Coastal Music, Inner Vision Surf and Skate, Salt Water Wine and PCYC.

The event is part of the Port Macquarie-Hastings Council wider indent program that provides for drug and alcohol free events throughout the year.
