NATIONAL WATER WEEK Platypus

October 18-24, 2009

SECURING OUR WATER FUTURE

Water is the link between all living things and this year, as a part of National Water Week celebrations, the Hastings will celebrate its natural environment.

Securing Our Water Future is the theme of this year's event and with this focus, Port Macquarie-Hastings Council will host several community events that look at the water cycle, the link between a healthy environment and all living things and an integrated approach to conservation - from riparian land restoration to clean catchments, water and energy efficiency and recycling waste.

During Water Week, Council hopes to develop a greater community understanding of the relationship between the environment, life and the impact small changes can have on the long-term sustainability of biodiversity and natural resources.

Planned activities aim to evoke thought about how we use our environment and the impact, or 'footprint', we are leaving behind. Conservation encompasses many areas but all efforts to reduce, re-use, recycle, reclaim will ultimately have a global impact on the environment.
