Australia Day
Australia Day is celebrated through the region and Council supports the community celebrations through its Australia Day Sub-committee.
Council presents Australia Day Awards each year. Awards are presented to acknowledge achievements by individuals or groups living and/or working in our region who have made outstanding contributions to the community. The Awards provide unique recognition for some of the outstanding work of residents and are part of the Council's commitment to strengthening community participation within the region.
Nominations are accepted in four categories as detailed below.
Nominations must be received at Port Macquarie-Hastings Council no later than Thursday 19 November 2009.

Citizen of the Year
A fair go, a concern for the environment, desire for prosperity with a share for all, participation in sport, cultural diversity, the importance of strong community values and support systems and a keen desire to make a contribution tO the community are just some of the attributes we look for in a Citizen of the Year nominee.

Young Citizen of the Year
Port Macquarie-Hastings Council Young Citizen of the Year Award is designed to recognise the contributions and achievements of young people in the Port Macquarie- Hastings Council area. It will be judged on community involvement, scholastic achievement or business enterprise of the entrants

Community Service Group of the Year
The Community Service Group of the Year Award is designed to recognise the contributions and achievements of community groups in the Port Macquarie-Hastings Council area. The Award will be judged on community involvement and strong community values.
