Up to $50,000 available in community water grants program

4 July 2007

Community organisations, schools and businesses across the Hastings are being encouraged to develop water-saving projects with the assistance of the Australian Government's Community Water Grants program.

Grants of up to $50,000 are available for the implementation of practical, on-the-ground projects that save water or improve the health of local water resources.

A number of local groups received grants in the first round of the funding allocations earlier this year including; the Port Macquarie Seventh Day Adventist rainwater harvesting project, Wauchope primary and high school's rainwater tank and water  saving device installations; Port Macquarie-Hastings Council's saltwater conversion plan for the Westport Park fish cleaning tables and National Parks and Wildlife Service erosion control at Trevor's Corner Dunbogan.

Applications for the Community Water Grants program close on 25 August 2006.  Further information and application forms are available from the internet at www.australia.gov.au/communitywatergrants or by phoning 1800 780 730.
