Australia Day celebrations - Camden Haven

Lion's Park, Pilot Beach will be the scene for this year's Australia Day celebrations on Saturday January 26, coordinated by Port Macquarie Hastings Council and the Australia Day Committee. The Laurieton Lions Club will start the day at 7.00am with 'sizzling snags' for 'Breakfast on the Beach'.

The Australiana Salute will open the official proceedings at 7am delivered by the Hastings District Highland Pipe Band and the Camden Haven Concert Band. The firing of the 48th Regiment of Foot cannon will herald the raising of the flag, after which the Regiment will present arms and fire a volley from their Brown Bess Muskets.

Port Macquarie-Hastings Mayor, Councillor Rob Drew said, "I encourage everyone in our community to actively get involved in celebrating this important national event."

John Cromarty will give the blessing and also lead the singing of the National Anthem, to be accompanied by the Camden Haven Concert Band. Speeches from Officials and Mayor, Councillor Rob Drew will then be delivered.

Australia Day Ambassador, Sandra Morgan-Beavis will then give her Australia Day Address. Mrs. Morgan-Beavis won gold in the 1956 Melbourne Olympic Games and silver in the 1960 Rome Olympic Games for swimming in the 4 x 100 metre freestyle relay.

The citizenship ceremony will then precede bush poetry from Rod Worthing, after which, entertainment will be provided by local music groups Hastings District Highland Pipe Band and the Camden Haven Concert Band.
