Statement of Reconciliation and Commitment

On 25 June 2008, Port Macquarie Hastings Council adopted the Statement of Reconciliation and Commitment.  The document acknowledges the Birpai as the traditional owners and custodians of the Hastings lands through their inherent rights as First Nations Peoples. The Statement of Reconciliation and Commitment is built on the legacy of the traditional owners and the continuing contribution of the Birpai and other Aboriginal people to the local area.

This acknowledgement recognises that reconciliation can be achieved through mutual respect for people, the land and its history.
