Community Survey 2008

Port Macquarie-Hastings Council sought to examine community attitudes and satisfaction with a broad range of issues that will assist with the development of Council's future plans.

Council wished to better understand:

  • Customer expectations
  • Customer perceptions of their service experience
  • The importance customers attach to specific Council services
  • Customer satisfaction level with Council services

600 telephone surveys of local residents conducted (evenings) November/December 2008.

Participants were 18 years or older and had lived in the area for a minimum of 6 months. The sample closely reflected our local population.

The community demonstrated:-

  • Strong appreciation of our region and the lifestyle afforded.
  • Moderate levels of satisfaction with Council's performance overall
  • Stronger levels of satisfaction with individual service delivery

Identified priority areas for improvement were as follows:

  1. Maintenance of sealed roads
  2. Car parking
  3. Providing value for the ratepayers' dollars
  4. Footpaths and cycleways
  5. Residents' involvement in Council's decision making
  6. Long-term planning and vision
  7. Informing residents about Council activities
  8. Providing strong community leadership
  9. Encouraging industry and business
  10. Quality of town centre and public spaces
  11. Regulating traffic flow
  12. An adequate stormwater drainage system
