'Spirit of Water' Theme for this year's Osmosis Photography Competition
Friday, 27 March 2009
The 2009 Osmosis photography, art and poetry competition has officially opened and this year the theme encourages an exploration of water and its life-giving qualities.
The competition, now in its seventh year, is open to Hastings residents of all ages and is funded by Port Macquarie-Hastings Council as part of its program of educating the broader community about water conservation and environmental sustainability.
Photographers, writers and artists are encouraged to submit work that explores the mystical, magical, playful and spiritual elements of water.
"Entrants are this year able to capture those magic moments with water," Osmosis co-ordinator Krissa Wilkinson said.
"This could include the play of colours on the water at dawn and dusk, bathing your child or swimming, or exploring the life-giving nature of water to all living things that depend on it for survival. This year's competition offers great imaginative scope."
Those who participate have the chance of winning part of the $1600 in prize money, having their work exhibited during Water Week in October as well as published in the 2010 Osmosis calendar.
This year the competition is free with a maximum of three entries per person. The competition closes on Friday 31 July, 2009.
Entry forms are available at all Council offices, libraries and our website.
Winners will be announced during Water Week celebrations in October with an exhibition of works at The Glasshouse.
All money raised from the sale of the Osmosis calendar is donated to WaterAid Australia for clean water projects in developing countries.
The Osmosis event is proudly supported and acknowledged by the United Nations.
