Kennedy Drive Combined Crossing
Monday, 27 April 2009
Work has been completed on the construction of a combined marked/school crossing in Kennedy Drive at Port Macquarie.
The existing crossing was upgraded to improve the safety of people crossing the busy road.
Port Macquarie-Hastings Council engineers have completed sign posting and line-marking in time for the return of school children this week.
Council's acting Director of Infrastructure Services, Jeffery Sharp said, "We have worked hard to have the crossing installed before school resumes.
"It is important that all members of the community are aware of the new combined crossing to maximise pedestrian safety," Mr Sharp said.
"Pedestrians are advised that before using the crossing to stop, look both ways and wait for vehicles to stop before stepping on to the crossing.
"Motorists are also being reminded to keep a close eye out for pedestrians.
"While this type of crossing is still being trialed across the state, Council will closely monitor its operation and will report back to the RTA on any safety concerns," Mr Sharp said.
