Connecting the Generations
Tuesday, 27 October 2009
Port Macquarie-Hastings Council will be holding a series of intergenerational forums to build positive relationships across the generations as well as addressing the perceptions of crime in the community.
The forums will bring local year nine school students and older people together to discuss a range of issues on how best to break down the barriers between the generations.
Director of Community and Cultural Development, Lesley Atkinson said, "Building positive relationships, developing connections and relationships between older and younger people is an important step in bridging the generational gap in our community.
"We hope that participants will come away with a greater understanding and appreciation between the generations and opportunities to work together towards future co-operation.
"The forum which has been funded through an NRMA community grant, will also inform participants about the actual level and type of crime in the Port Macquarie LGA," Ms Atkinson said.
Council is seeking people 60 years and over to attend the first forum which will run from 9.30am to 2.00pm on Thursday 5th November.
Morning tea and lunch will be provided. Council will also organise transport if people require it.
If anyone would like to attend they should contact Council's Aged and Disability Development Officer, Ross Henderson by Monday, 2nd November on 6581 8480 or email ross.henderson@pmhc.nsw.gov.au
