When will my animal be taken to the Pound?
If your dog is caught in a public place, not under effective control, any member of the public may seize the animal and convey it to the pound or alternatively a Council Ranger may seize and impound your animal.
What should I do if my animal is impounded?
If your animal is seized by Port Macqurie-Hastings Council it is conveyed to its impounding facility in John Fraser Place, Port Macquarie. The animal is scanned for the presence of a microchip and if present the owner is contacted (where possible) and informed that the animal has been seized. Where phone contact is not possible, a Council Ranger will send a 'Notice of Seizure' to the registered owner via mail.
To release your animal you will be required to fill in a release form and pay the appropriate impounding fees. If your animal is not microchipped and registered it will not be released without these procedures being completed.
