Port Macquarie-Hastings Council Community Grants Program

Applications for the 2009/2010 Port Macquarie-Hastings Council Community Grants Program closed on 12 June 2009. Successful applicants will be notified in August 2009.

Port Macquarie-Hastings Council recognises a need to assist non-profit community groups and organisations that are interested in, and working towards, the enhancement and wellbeing of its residents. The Community Grants Program provides funding support to such community groups and organisations in their endeavours to establish, strengthen and/or implement projects, which would benefit our residents. A total pool of $170,000 is available with a maximum of $10,000 available for individual grants.

To be eligible for a Port Macquarie-Hastings Council Community Grant your organisation must:

  • be Hastings-based
  • be not-for-profit
  • have an ABN and be incorporated (or be auspiced by an organisation that has an ABN and incorporation status)

The funds are allocated to organisations running programs and undertaking projects aimed at enhancing the well-being of Hastings residents. In particular, funding priority is given to programs/projects which are innovative, foster initiative and self-help among residents and encourage the participation of people who have limited opportunities to participate due to low income, geographic or social isolation, cultural background or disability.

Music Development Fund

The Port Macquarie-Hastings Council Music Development Fund was established in 2004 to support locally based music groups to:

  • bring professional development opportunities to the wealth of talent and music groups in the Hastings.
  • strategically develop the Hastings music scene towards a music economy servicing music audiences and professional musicians
  • increase the profile of musicians, music groups and festivals based in the Hastings.

The Port Macquarie-Hastings Council Music Development Fund has a grant allocation of $6,500.  It is anticipated to be available on an annual basis.

Applications are invited from Hastings community based, not-for-profit music organisations for new projects that develop the music skills and talents of the local residents and community groups.  Previous allocations range from $500-$1,000 small grants towards the costs of bringing visiting master musicians/composers to run workshops for young musicians and teachers. Applications close 11am, Thursday 20 November 2008.

The Sporting Fund

The Sporting Fund was established in 1999 by former Mayor, Councillor Wayne Richards. The Sporting Fund provides financial assistance to Hastings youth (residents) who have been selected to attend high level sporting competitions outside the local government area. Financial assistance and grants are available to sport and recreation groups and individuals through a number of sources, including the NSW Sport and Recreation's grant programs.

The Local Sporting Champions program is an Australian Government initiative designed to provide financial assistance for junior sportsmen and women towards the cost of travel, accommodation, uniforms or equipment when competing at an official national sporting organisation (NSO) endorsed state or national sporting competition.

 

The Hastings Cultural Youth Fund

The fund was established as part of the NSW 4th City of the Arts Program 2001-2003 by former Mayor, Councillor Wayne Richards.  The Hastings Youth Cultural Fund provides support to residents aged 12-25 years to attend professional training opportunities outside of the local government area.  All applicants are interviewed by a community panel.  For further information about the Hastings Youth Cultural Fund please contact Shona Russell on 6581 8111 or email shona.russell@pmhc.nsw.gov.au.

The Get Active Sporting Scholarship

The Get Active Sporting Scholarship is an exciting development to the Port Macquarie-Hastings Sporting Fund and aims to assist young people to engage in sport. The scholarship is open to Hastings young people aged 5 to 18 years, who may have experienced social barriers that may have prevented them becoming involved in sporting activities in the past.

The Scholarship runs twice a year, with each scholarship being a maximum of up to $200. Applications can be downloaded below and close on 3 April 2009. For more information contact Port Macquarie-Hastings Council on 6581 8111.

Wayne Richards Sporting Talent Grant

Launched in 2004 by the Mayor's Sporting Fund (see above), the grant is a tribute to the former Mayor Wayne Richards who established the Mayor's Sporting Fund and was a passionate supporter of youth and sport in the Port Macquarie-Hastings region. The grant of $2,500 is designed to provide financial assistance for a Hastings-based athlete to fulfil their sporting goals.

The Sporting Talent Grant opens in December each year.

 

Seniors Week Grants

Port Macquarie-Hastings Council offer an annual Seniors Week Grant Program to assist the development and organisation of activities to celebrate Seniors Week in our local community.

Seniors Week runs from 15-22 March 2009.

Non-profit community based organisations, wishing to organise an activity for Seniors Week are encouraged to apply. Successful applicants will need to propose an activity/project with an intergenerational theme which needs to include older and young people.

The total amount of funding available is $2000 and will be distributed as follows: Port Macquarie $1000; Wauchope area $500; and Camden Haven area $500. Note: applications for smaller amounts are welcome.

Applications for 2009 have now closed.

 

Hastings Local Heritage Assistance Fund - 2009/10

The Hastings Local Heritage Assistance Fund aims to encourage positive work on heritage items in the area. Projects which may be eligible for funding are those that involve the repair, maintenance or reinstatement of missing items on heritage buildings. These include fences, verandahs, roof cladding and decorative detail. Funding is available on a dollar-for-dollar basis and preference is given to projects where the overall cost of works is in excess of $2,000.

The Fund has $15,000 for the 2009/10 financial year, this comprisings a $7,500 grant from the Heritage Branch of the NSW Department of Planning and $7,500 from Council.
