Council welcomes Virgin Flights to Brisbane
Confirmation today from Virgin Australia that they will commence direct flights between Port Macquarie and Brisbane has been welcomed by Port Macquarie-Hastings Council.
Not only will this service provide the community with more choice and travel flexibility, it also has the potential to expand the tourism market and therefore have a significant economic impact.
According to Council's General Manager, Tony Hayward the news of the first direct flights between Port Macquarie and Brisbane will be celebrated by both leisure travellers and the business sector.
"With approximately 220,000 passengers through our airport last financial year it is certainly one of Council's most significant facilities.
"This new route is the result of an ongoing commitment from Council staff over a number of years to foster successful business relationships with our airline partners.
Virgin Australia has confirmed that a daily return flight will commence from October this year, with a flight schedule yet to be announced.
"This announcement is a further endorsement of Council's continued investment in the airport.
"Looking forward, Council remains committed to promoting further growth in passenger numbers and the expansion of flights as part of the ongoing development of Port Macquarie Airport as the premier gateway to the Mid North Coast," concluded Mr Hayward.
