Consultation on highway opening
Port Macquarie-Hastings Council in conjunction with the RTA, is coordinating a community celebration to mark the opening of the new six kilometre stretch of the Oxley Highway from the Pacific Highway to Port Macquarie.
This event is tentatively scheduled for early December 2011, but before planning a celebration Council wants to hear from its community, the participants, ideas for the celebration.
In similar events locally and other celebrations run by the RTA, community activities have involved classic car displays, guided walks and cycling events on the new roadway before it is opened.
Council's Corporate Events Coordinator Jenny Mead said that involving the community in the event planning will create positive participation.
"Given we have a good lead time to plan this celebration we felt it was important to ask the community how they would like to be involved and what activities they would participate in. It is also a chance for community groups and clubs to express their interest in being involved.
"The Oxley Highway is a vital link between the Port Macquarie and Wauchope communities and we are looking at how to incorporate that into the celebration event," said Ms Mead.
A questionnaire is available at Council offices and libraries and can also be competed online at www.pmhclistening.com.au/highwayopening.
"By early October we will look to compile the activities proposed for the community celebration so that we can finalise coordination and promotion," concluded Ms Mead.
