Land sale will allow Kendall tennis facility upgrade

Council has agreed to purchase a parcel of land in Orara St, Kendall, which will become the site of an upgraded tennis facility for the Kendall community.

The decision follows Council's negotiations with the Australia Rail Track Corporation acting on behalf of the owners Country Rail Infrastructure Authority, who agreed to the sale of approximately one hectare of railway land in Orara St Kendall.

A large modern tennis facility is proposed for the new site which will include eight tennis courts, clubhouse and carpark area.

Director of Corporate and Business Services Craig Swift-McNair said existing facilities at the Kendall Tennis Club were inadequate and required upgrading, but the current location on Crown land did not allow for expansion.

"Purchase of this site will allow for future development and growth of the sport to service Kendall and the wider region," Mr Swift-McNair said.

Council has consulted extensively with local organisations including representatives of the Kendall Tennis Club on the project and the outcome continues a commitment to provide recreational facilities that will benefit the health and well being of the community.

The proceeds of the recent sale of Council land in Kew will assist in funding the purchase of land for the new project.

The ARTC will provide Council with the necessary approvals to lodge a subdivision application, development application and rezoning application prior to settlement of the sale.
