Facelift for Port Macquarie Hockey Field
Council has today announced the approval of a $320,000 interest-free loan to be provided to the Port Macquarie Hastings Hockey Association to complete a surface upgrade of the playing field.
Director of Infrastructure Services, Jeff Sharp acknowledged that the popular Port Macquarie hockey field had suffered significant surface damage since its original construction in 1996.
"Council has resolved to undertake underground works on the field and offer the hockey association an interest-free loan for a period of 10 years that will fund the resurfacing of the field," Mr Sharp said.
Works on the project are set to begin shortly and will involve replacing the entire playing surface and include an additional base layer. The base layer will remove any future concerns of storm water causing long term damage to the ground. An asphaltic cement surface will complete the upgrade.
Council is set to investigate this issue more broadly at next month's Council meeting after a commitment to develop a loan policy for sporting groups prior to the approval of any additional funding for emergency works on existing assets was also formally approved.
