6th Annual Bowls Day Challenge a huge success

Business people from throughout the Hastings 'kicked off their shoes and raised their bums in the air' for the 6th Annual Coca Cola Sporting Fund Bowls Day Challenge helping to raise more than $5000 for our young local elite athletics.

More than 20 teams participated in perfect conditions for the afternoon on the green, with many embracing a fancy dress theme and frivolity and fun had by all.

While the 'Golden Thong' was hotly contested, prizes were also awarded for the best dressed team, best toes, fancy and feral feet.

Port Macquarie-Hastings Council event coordinator Jenny Mead said the challenge for the 'Golden Thong was one of two major events coordinated by Port Macquarie-Hastings Council to raise money for the Sporting Fund.

"The support shown by local businesses for this event will ensure the fund is able to continue supporting our young Hastings-based athletes and encourage their pursuits of sporting excellence," Ms Mead said.

"The money raised this year has also exceeded our previous efforts which is a fantastic result."

The fund was established back in 1999 by former Mayor, the late Wayne Richards to provide the opportunity for young local athletes to apply for financial assistance with expenses competing at state, national or international levels of competition.
