Bushcare -- Dunecare -- Streamcare
The role of community environmental programs is a vital component of an effective local response to environmental issues.
Many people in the Hastings volunteer their time for the environment. Much of this work is carried out under the umbrella of Landcare (including Dunecare, Bushcare and Streamcare programs).

Friends of Kooloonbung Creek Nature Park
Kooloonbung Creek Nature Park was designed by John Wrigley AM BSc, who was commissioned by Hastings Council in 1985 after receiving a Bi-centennial grant towards the park's development. The project was an initiative of the Port Macquarie Conservation Society.
In 1996, the Friends received a generous bequest from the estate of the late GS Sykes, which allowed major improvements, including educational plates, a new boardwalk and the second pontoon bridge.
The park has been developed and maintained by the Friends of Kooloonbung Creek Nature Park and Port Macquarie-Hastings Council. There are over 150 members of the Friends of Kooloonbung Creek Nature Park. The members are volunteers, many of whom have been working in conjunction with Port Macquarie-Hastings Council since 1985. The volunteers conduct weekly working-bees to enhance the park, undertaking tasks such as weeding, tree planting and maintaining pathways. Often this work is done in conjunction with other community groups or local schools.
Friends of Kooloonbung Creek Nature Park hold working-bees every Monday morning at the park except on public holidays and during January. New volunteers always welcome. The group meets on Gordon Street at 8.30 am. BYO morning tea. For more information contact 6582 0818 or 6581 3677.
Kooloonbung Reflections, an educational article on the park and other environmental issues, is published each week in the local press.
