The site, originally owned by Corporal Michael Fahy of the 28Th Regiment, was bought by the Bank of New South Wales in 1882. The Bank used the building that was on this site until Jacob Healey commenced construction of this building late in 1891.
The Bank opened its doors in 1893 and although renovations were made to the building in 1912, 1960, 1978 and 2000 the distinctive front façade has maintained its appearance through the years.
